Museums of Madrid. MAN, National Archaeological Museum

Recently the MAN, the National Archaeological Museum, has opened its doors again with a spectacular reform modernizing its facilities and giving a new air to a museum that needed a good coat of paint. Such are the changes that may be unrecognizable even sharing the same facilities as in the past, the so-calledPalace of Libraries and Museums, a little original name but that clearly reflects what it contains today.

Today the National Archaeological Museum houses 40 rooms in more than 23,000m2, a bet to try to be among the most viewed museums in Spain.

MAN - National Archaeological Museum

I have to recognize that my favorite museums were between the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Archeology. They will not be museums that overflow with as much art as the Meadow or the Thyssen or of a certain magnetism like elSorolla, but they house the history not only of our country, but of much of the world. The National Archaeological Museum is a symbol of the exploration and why not, of the adventure. In it we can see a heritage with more than one million pieces of prehistory, of the Roman Hispania, of the Middle Ages, of the Middle East, of ancient Greece and even of the ancient Egypt and Nubia, one of my favorite corners of the museum.

The National Archaeological Museum

The museum floor to floor

The museum is divided into "four floors." The low level, where is the entrance and exhibition of archeology and heritage with spectacular screens and part of the prehistory. In the first floor There is Roman Hispania and Protohistory mainly. On this floor highlights the Roman mosaics and the emblematic Lady of Elche. Between the first and the second floor is the call mezzanine, with an exhibition of the currency.

The second and the last floor of the museum houses Ancient Greece, Egypt and Nubia, the Christian kingdoms and the Middle East among others. For us, one of the most interesting plants in the museum.

When visiting the museum, avoid weekends, although it is not a museum where large queues are formed. It is an ideal museum to go with family where children usually have a lot of fun. It is advisable to approach first thing in the morning or at lunchtime, when the influx of people is much lower. Besides, although the visit is usually done from the bottom up should do it the other way around If you go first thing.
