One of the main activities of the Valle de Arán is hiking with snow rackets, an activity that is not usually crowded like skiing and that allows you to travel through beautiful valleys or climb white mountains. Going to the Aran Valley in winter is not just skiing, the routes with rackets are increasingly fashionable. There are for all levels and today we start with a simple experience to one of the key places, the Colomers Circus, an enclave very visited in summer for the amount of lakes it houses.

Tedros Banhs Route

Simple route with snowshoes to Bandos de Tredos

A simple route that also ends in a lost hotel, is the one that starts from Salardu in a southerly direction, along a hidden road at the foot of the mountain along the Aiguamog River, in the Park National Aigues Tortes. The route begins in the parking lot where the snowmobiles leave to the hotel of Bahns de Tredos, a place where the snow plows do not arrive and that the only way to access is on foot, by snowmobile or by sled.

Let's not forget wear the chains, since this parking lot is usually frozen and in bad conditions, as sometimes happens with the same road that accesses here. From the parking lot you have to take a path marked by snowmobiles, although we recommend to avoid their tracks and walk along the virgin snow, since snowshoes are much more enjoyed on that surface.

Along the way it is possible to cross with a snowmobile lagoon that goes down a hotel guest, as well as a cabin. The road does not have too much unevenness and the most beautiful is to contemplate how you leave behind the Aran Valley to enter a small valley that houses the refuge, the hotel and many outings for hiking.

Already in the same hotel you can rest and have a good broth or a coffee as well as eating there, an ideal time to warm up and regain strength for the return. The best of all is that from this point to the parking lot it is all down, so it will not take you too long to return to the car and the Aran Valley.

Practical data

Where to eat?

On this route it is best to take food and eat once you have reached the valley where the routes leave for Colomers. Another option is to eat in the hotel, warm and cold, something that has no option on all mountain routes.

Where to sleep?

Looking at the accommodation being a very simple and short route it is best to return to the Aran Valley and sleep in places like:

  • The Vall Blanca. Apartment complex in Vielha Ideal for a ski trip.
  • Verneda campsite. Wooden houses ideal for a family trip.
  • Banhs de Tredós, on the road from Salardú to the National Park. It is one of the most spas / hotel isolated Pyrenees
  • Edelweiss A classic of Arties.
